Quotable Quote

"I recently heard an older minister comment that he wasn't sure from his experience if it was true that the heavenly-minded are of less earthly value, but he has learned unfailing that those who are earthly-minded are never of any heavenly good at all."

"The first work of the church is always to teach about God and His great saving deeds. This must take precedence over every competing value, including the church's mandate to service and good deeds."

- Richard D. Phillips, Turning Back the Darkness: The Biblical Pattern of Reformation, (Crossway Books, Wheaton, Il, USA, 2002), p. 49

Good quote. I think there's a general awakening in the church to the fact that humanistic efforts are not the solution to man's woes and the problems we have in the world today.

    It's THE GOSPEL!

  3. I think the earthly/heavenly minded quote originated with Plato or Aristotle, who were presuposing the Demiurge...Anyway, it is certainly true that being earthly minded is the scurge of modern religious thought on almost every level.

I am not so hopeful of this changing any time soon.

This is my blog, and in order to facilitate an edifying exchange, I have came up with various blog rules. Please do read them before commenting, as failure to abide by them would make your post liable to being unapproved for publication. Violation of any of the rules three or more times, or at the blog owner's judgment, would make one liable to be banned from posting unless the blog owner (me) is satisfied that such behavior would not occur again.
