ER2 and "Ethnic Gnosticism"

Dr. James White recently did a Dividing Line show with Pastor Voddie Baucham on the playing of the race card in the Elephant Room 2 T.D. Jakes fiasco by black pastors like Bryan Loritts. Baucham calls this attitude "Ethnic Gnosticism" and indeed it is. The entire attitude that gives rise to the whole idea of "Black theology" and the "Black church" is basically a denial of the Gospel and is as damnable as the heresy of the Judaizers condemned by Paul as "another gospel" (Gal. 1:9)

We confess ONE HOLY, CATHOLIC AND APOSTOLIC CHURCH. There is only one Christ, one head, and thus one body, one church. There is no such thing as the "white church," the "black church" or the "yellow church"! Likewise, there is no such thing as "white theology," "black theology," or "yellow theology" and certainly no such thing as "Asian theology" much less "water buffalo theology"!

Racism is practical heresy. Reverse racism is no better. Theological racism or "Ethnic Gnosticism" is likewise heresy. The worst thing about it is that it hides behind the facade of being the victim of racism, as if two wrongs (real or perceived) necessarily make one right.

May we not make the same error, but unite around the Gospel message of which "there is neither Jew nor Greek, neither slave nor free, there is no male and female," but that we "are all one in Christ Jesus" (Gal. 3:28). Amen.

After looking at the amazon offering from the link, I think I prefer Water Buffalo Theology as a term to describe the Nagasaki which was ER2.
In any case, it better describes in an instant how wrong many of the theologies expressed and defended regarding er2 are.

  2. @Taki:

precisely the problem. I am not white, and historically are part of a group under the boots of white imperialism. Do you see me whining about "white oppression"?

There is no such thing as "white theology." Whoever does not see that does not understand theology one bit. Such a person also does not even understand the reason why blacks end up being oppressed, which is partly the fault of your tribal leaders in Africa who sold you into slavery while they were busy fighting among themselves tribe against tribe. Also, partly, the belief in evolution aids the exploitation. History gets thrown out of the window, as if "white theology" has anything to do with black oppression.

Whatever the past hurts the black community has gone through, it is irrelevant for theological truths. Both Athanasius and Augustine were North Africans, and the participants at the various ecumenical councils of the early church were done by people who mostly were not white.

Racism is racism whatever color it manifests itself. As a non-white, I find your comment reprehensible.

If your comment here is symptomatic of what most blacks think, you guys need to seriously repent of your racism.

Thankfully, I know of people like Voddie Baucham and another acquitance in UK who are both black and are not racists.

And speaking of sell-outs, if you guys cannot grow a spine, you should be thinking of how James MacDonald has basically just played the black community so that he ends up as a rose. Those who are unable to think beyond the victim stage always end up as victims.

This is my blog, and in order to facilitate an edifying exchange, I have came up with various blog rules. Please do read them before commenting, as failure to abide by them would make your post liable to being unapproved for publication. Violation of any of the rules three or more times, or at the blog owner's judgment, would make one liable to be banned from posting unless the blog owner (me) is satisfied that such behavior would not occur again.
