It has been said that a picture is worth a thousand words. Well, here is a video contrasting the teachings of John Piper and Rick Warren, which makes Piper's compromise of the Gospel even more astonishing

This is my blog, and in order to facilitate an edifying exchange, I have came up with various blog rules. Please do read them before commenting, as failure to abide by them would make your post liable to being unapproved for publication. Violation of any of the rules three or more times, or at the blog owner's judgment, would make one liable to be banned from posting unless the blog owner (me) is satisfied that such behavior would not occur again.
I was shocked that Piper invited Rick Warren to speak at the Desiring God conference due to how different the two are (supposedly). This video makes that all the more apparent. Rick Warren seems to be one of the many "seeker sensitive" pastors preaching what I call the gospel of "self aggrandizement", which after seeing this video I realize, is nothing more than the prosperity gospel. That's a mouthful! I hope and pray that Piper would see that Rick Warren is preaching health, wealth, and prosperity.

ReplyDeleteI agree.
It is true John Piper invited Rick Warren to the Desiring God conference. Personally, I do not agree with John Piper's invitation to Rick Warren. Rick Warren's ministry is sham and it will no doubt be judged by the LORD one day and tested by fire, it is likely only worthless ashes will remain.
ReplyDeleteWhat is also true about John Piper, he has NOT compromised the Gospel. John Piper has been a faithful minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, we should not seek to cast aspersion upon this faithful servant entire record of ministry merely upon his invitation of WR to a conference.
(By the way, from what I know, WR did not turned up in person. He just appeared in a video)
@GWIT:
ReplyDeleteBeing unequally yoked with, and defending the "orthodoxy" of false teachers like Rick Warren qualify as compromise for me.
Google to find Piper's interview with Rick Warren, or search my blog site, to find the relevant posts/videos where John Piper defended both his invitation to Rick Warren for DG2011, and Warren's orthodoxy.
Piper has done much for the kingdom, but then so has Solomon and Hezekiah, who nevertheless both compromise towards the end of their lives. The Scriptures and the Spirit have no favorates when it comes to the call for faithfulness.
And I have not even gone into Piper's ambiguous teaching in his book Future Grace.
